Richard Youngs
Richard Youngs (born 1966) is a Scottish musician based in Glasgow, among the most prolific figures in British underground music. Working primarily with acoustic and electric guitar, voice, and occasionally electronics, he has released hundreds of recordings across tapes, records, and CD-Rs since the late 1980s, on labels including Jagjaguwar, Twisted Village, and his own Streamline. His practice ranges from drone and minimalist repetition to folk song and improvisation, maintaining a consistency of purpose despite enormous formal diversity. He collaborates frequently with Simon Wickham-Smith, Jandek, and others, and is regarded as a foundational figure in British folk-noise underground.
