Richard Hamilton

Richard Hamilton (1922–2011) was a British artist widely considered a founding figure of Pop Art, whose influence extends across painting, printmaking, collage, installation and digital media over six decades. A member of the Independent Group at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London in the early 1950s — alongside Lawrence Alloway, Eduardo Paolozzi, Alison and Peter Smithson — his collage Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing? (1956), made for the This Is Tomorrow exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, is one of the most cited works in the history of post-war art.
