Reinhold Friedl

Reinhold Friedl is a German pianist, composer, musicologist and ensemble director born in 1964, based in Berlin. He is founder and artistic director of Zeitkratzer, an ensemble he established that has become internationally recognised for its practice of performing fully notated acoustic realisations of works by artists from outside the classical concert world.

Zeitkratzer's realisations have included Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, works by Merzbow, Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto), Keiji Haino, Whitehouse, Terre Thaemlitz and many others, creating a systematic and serious engagement between contemporary composed music and the broader field of experimental, electronic and noise practice.
