Rechenzentrum

Rechenzentrum (German for Data Centre) is a Berlin-based project founded in 1997 by DJ Marc Weiser and Irish video artist Lillevän Pobjoy, with Christian Conrad contributing as a studio member on early recordings. From the outset they defined their work as a band in which audio and video are equally weighted — treating video as an instrument and music as something to be experienced visually. They debuted at Documenta 1997 in Kassel and released their self-titled album on Kitty-Yo in 2000, followed by Director's Cut in 2003. Their sound is minimalist and polyrhythmic, deeply hypnotic while remaining inventive and sculptural.
