Rainy Miller
Rainy Miller, born Jack Bowes near Preston, came up amid the mid-2000s grime wave that swept the Lancashire town before moving to Manchester at 21 to study audio engineering. His R&B-inflected debut album Limbs (2019), released on his own label Fixed Abode, earned comparisons to Frank Ocean for its unconventional use of autotune. He became a central figure in the North West's experimental scene alongside Space Afrika, Iceboy Violet, and Blackhaine, developing a self-described "Northern Gothic" aesthetic that draws parallels between the American Deep South and England's post-industrial satellite towns, retelling local folklore through blown-out, emotionally raw electronic songwriting.
