Porest

Porest is the alias of Mark Gergis, an American musician, label operator, and field recordist based in San Francisco. Working in musique concrète, noise, and documentary sound, he releases on Siltbreeze, Pogus, and his own Majmua label. His recordings combine found sounds, ethnographic field recordings, and electronic manipulation into fractured compositions of considerable formal wit. He has also travelled extensively documenting music from Syria, India, and Southeast Asia, releasing these recordings in collaboration with Sublime Frequencies. His practice bridges sound art, documentary ethnomusicology, and noise in an uncommon way.
