Philip Corner

Philip Corner is an American composer and performer born in 1933 in New York. A student of Olivier Messiaen in Paris and closely associated with the Fluxus movement in the 1960s, he developed a practice that spans avant-garde performance, piano music, improvisation, and conceptual scores. His work Piano Activities (1961), which famously involved the destruction of a piano at a Fluxus festival, is among the iconic events of that movement. He has lived in Italy since the 1970s and remained active as a composer and performer throughout his long career, with releases on Alga Marghen and other labels.
