Philip Best
Born in England in 1966, he formed Consumer Electronics in 1982 and joined the power electronics group Whitehouse the following year, becoming a central figure in British industrial and extreme noise through the 1980s. He also ran the DIY tape label Iphar, which helped circulate and promote the nascent power electronics scene. After leaving Whitehouse in 2008 he reactivated Consumer Electronics as a trio with his wife Sarah Froelich and Russell Haswell. He holds a doctorate in English literature from Durham University, with a thesis on apocalypticism in the fiction of Burroughs, Ballard, and Pynchon.
