Peter Sotos

Peter Sotos is an American writer and noise musician whose work occupies extreme, contested territory within industrial and noise culture. His early fanzine Pure, published in Chicago in the early 1980s and focused on violent and sexual extremity, resulted in his arrest on obscenity charges in 1984. As a noise musician — contributing to Whitehouse and related projects — and as a writer, his work addresses transgressive content with a directness that refuses conventional moral framing. His books, including Total Abuse (1989) and Selfish, Little (1996), draw on the influence of Andrea Dworkin and the Marquis de Sade, refusing to soften or moralise their material for the reader.
