Peter Ablinger

Born on 15 March 1959 in Schwanenstadt, Upper Austria, he settled in Berlin in 1982 and taught at the Musikschule Kreuzberg while founding the Zwischentöne ensemble in 1988. His compositional practice centres on noise, white sound, and the dissolution of musical material into environment, most fully developed in the Weiss/Weisslich cycle — a series begun around 1980 that grew to thirty-six parts, investigating white noise through instrumental works, installations, and scores. He received the Berliner Kunstpreis Förderungspreis in 1998 and the Österreichischer Kunstpreis in 2020. He died on 17 April 2025.
