Panasonic
Panasonic was the original name used by Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen — the duo later known as Pan Sonic — until a legal dispute with the electronics company Panasonic forced a name change in 1996. Under the Panasonic name they released Vakio (1993) and Osasto (1994) on their own Sähkö Recordings label. The music — stark, minimal electronic pulses and bass frequencies applied with machine-like precision — was already fully formed in these early releases and established the aesthetic that would make Pan Sonic one of the most influential projects in European experimental electronic music.
