Painjerk

Painjerk is the solo project of Kohei Nagaoka, a Japanese noise musician based in Osaka. Also an active member of Hijokaidan — one of the founding groups of the Japanese noise tradition — as well as other noise ensembles and collaborative projects, Nagaoka's solo work under the Painjerk name produces harsh, high-density noise recordings that sit at the most violent end of the Japanese tradition.

His practice is characterised by dense, layered constructions of feedback, distortion, circuit noise and tape manipulation, pushed to extremes of amplitude, frequency and duration in ways that test the physical limits of both equipment and listener.
