Otomo Yoshihide
Otomo Yoshihide (born 1959) is a Japanese musician and composer based in Tokyo. Working as a turntablist, guitarist, and electronics improviser, he has been central to the Tokyo experimental scene since the early 1990s through his group Ground Zero — which produced confrontational collage music drawing on noise, free jazz, and pop debris — and numerous collaborative and solo projects. His turntable technique treats the record and needle as instruments, scraping, cutting, and layering at extreme speed. He has collaborated with dozens of musicians internationally and, in addition to his experimental work, has written film scores and led large-ensemble projects including his New Jazz Orchestra.
