Oscar Vargas Leal
A student of the Mexican microtonal composer Julián Carrillo, he worked alongside fellow disciple David Espejo Aviles to compose and record the 1973 album Cromometrofonía No.1, released on Discos Pax. The recording features arpa citera—special microtonal vertical harps built by the two composers capable of producing 400 notes in sixteenth-tone intervals—in the tradition of Carrillo's Sonido 13 theory. The album has since been reissued and is regarded as a key document of Mexican experimental and microtonal music from that period.
