Oren Ambarchi

Born in Sydney in 1969, he began performing as a jazz drummer before shifting to guitar in the late 1980s, developing an approach that routes the instrument through electronic processing to produce sustained drones, textural noise, and slow rhythmic cycles far removed from conventional playing. He co-organised the What Is Music? festival in Australia for a decade with Robbie Avenaim and has released collaborative albums with Jim O'Rourke. His solo records include Sagittarian Domain, Quixotism, and Hubris, and since 2009 he has run the Black Truffle label from Berlin.
