Okkyung Lee
Okkyung Lee (b. 1975, South Korea) is a Korean-American cellist based in New York whose work with free improvisation, noise, and cross-genre collaboration has made her one of the most significant and versatile string players in contemporary experimental music. She studied classical cello in South Korea and the United States before moving toward improvised and experimental practice, developing an approach to the cello that draws from noise, free jazz, contemporary classical music, and Korean musical traditions.
