NON

Boyd Rice (b. 1956) began recording experimental noise under the name NON in 1975, capturing and looping fragments of bubblegum pop by female vocal groups to distort melody into sustained drone. The Black Album (1978) employed tape loops and locked-groove turntable manipulations; Pagan Muzak followed in 1981 and Blood and Flame in 1987, establishing NON as a foundational force in American industrial music. Rice has recorded with Current 93, Death in June, and Rose McDowall, and the majority of his output has appeared on Mute Records.
