Noid

Born in Vienna in 1970, Arnold Haberl studied cello and mathematics before developing a practice under the alias noid that spans cello improvisation, sound installation, video art, and ensemble composition. His playing is built on extreme extended technique: high-pressure bowing, pizzicato frailing, and rapid string concussion produce results ranging from crackling percussion to ghostly high-register cries. He teaches MultiMediaArt at the University for Applied Sciences in Salzburg and has collaborated with Klaus Filip, Dieb13, Billy Roisz, Franz Hautzinger, and Elisabeth Schimana.
