Nocturnal Emissions
Formed in Derbyshire in 1980 by Nigel Ayers (b. 1957) alongside Caroline K (1957–2008) and Danny Ayers, Nocturnal Emissions ranks among the earliest uncompromising British industrial noise projects, contemporary with Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. In 1979 Ayers and Caroline K co-founded Sterile Records, whose catalogue included early releases by John Balance, Maurizio Bianchi, and Lustmord. Since 1984 the project has continued as Ayers' solo vehicle, spanning musique concrète, sound collage, ambient, and post-industrial forms, combining political critique with occult imagery.
