Niecy Blues

Niecy Blues is the performing name of Janise Robinson, a composer, vocalist, and multimedia artist raised in Oklahoma and now based in Charleston, South Carolina. Trained in musical theater, they build songs from smudged gospel, alt-R&B, and experimental electronic textures, treating sound as both ceremony and archive. Their work draws on a lineage of Black women who used voice and writing as tools of documentation and self-determination, dwelling on grief, lineage, and self-acceptance. After the EPs Opaque (2015) and Cry (2020), their full-length debut Exit Simulation appeared on Kranky in 2023, earning wide acclaim including a place among The Quietus's albums of the year.
