Nicolas Collins
Born in New York in 1954, he studied with Alvin Lucier at Wesleyan University and has worked alongside John Cage and David Tudor. He has been editor-in-chief of Leonardo Music Journal, visiting artistic director of STEIM in Amsterdam, and is a professor in the Department of Sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His book Handmade Electronic Music: The Art of Hardware Hacking, first published in 2006 and expanded in subsequent editions, is a standard reference for DIY circuit practice and hardware hacking in experimental music.
