Nick Cave

Nick Cave (b. 1957, Warracknabeal, Victoria, Australia) is an Australian musician, novelist, actor, and screenwriter whose work with The Birthday Party and The Bad Seeds has made him one of the most significant and distinctive figures in post-punk, alternative rock, and contemporary song. His musical range — from the ferocious chaos of The Birthday Party to the hushed intimacy of his more recent Bad Seeds albums — reflects a sustained engagement with darkness, violence, love, and faith.

The Birthday Party, formed in Melbourne in the late 1970s and active until 1983, combined the abrasion of punk with gothic imagery and a ferocious energy that influenced countless subsequent artists.
