Nestor Figueras

Nestor Figueras is a field recordist and researcher whose work focuses on the music and sound practices of Indigenous peoples of South America, notably the Yanomami of Venezuela and Brazil. His recordings document the chant traditions, ceremonial music, and sonic environments of communities that have received little ethnographic documentation, preserving material of significant cultural and acoustic importance. His work has been associated with David Toop, whose writing and curation of Amazonian and forest musics brought these sonic traditions into broader experimental music discourse, and whose anthology work on Amerindian music drew on similar field recording practices.
