Ned Sublette
Born in Lubbock, Texas in 1951, he studied Spanish classical guitar and, raised partly in New Mexico, grew up bilingual in English and Spanish. He moved to New York City in 1976 and worked alongside John Cage, La Monte Young, Glenn Branca, and Pauline Oliveros. He founded the label Qbadisc to release Cuban music in the United States and co-produced the radio programme Afropop Worldwide. His book Cuba and Its Music: From the First Drums to the Mambo (2004) was followed by The World That Made New Orleans (2009). He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2005.
