Nazia Hassan

Born in Karachi in 1965, she made her recording debut at fourteen with "Aap Jaisa Koi", a disco track for the Indian film Qurbani (1980) that won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer—the youngest and first Pakistani recipient of that honour. Her debut album Disco Deewane (1981) charted in fourteen countries and became the best-selling Asian pop record of its time. Recording alongside her brother Zoheb, she sold an estimated sixty-five million records before retiring in 1992. She died of lung cancer in London in 2000.
