Nazar
Nazar is an Angolan electronic musician, born in Belgium in 1993 to a family displaced by the Angolan civil war, who spent his teenage years in Luanda before settling in Manchester. Self-taught on a pirated copy of FL Studio and drawn in by Justice and Burial, he began producing a style he calls "rough kuduro," fusing the uptempo rhythms of Angolan kuduro with militaristic sound design, distortion, and gunfire-like percussion. Signed to Hyperdub in 2018, he released the Enclave EP followed by the acclaimed debut album Guerrilla (2020), which drew on his family's oral histories of the war to build a fractured, personal document of conflict and memory, continued on 2025's Demilitarize.
