Señor Coconut y su orquesta

Señor Coconut y su orquesta is one of many aliases of Uwe Schmidt (born 1969), a German-born musician based in Santiago de Chile since 1993. As Señor Coconut, Schmidt rearranges Kraftwerk's electronic music for Latin American orchestral and dance formats — cumbia, salsa, merengue — in a project that operates simultaneously as sincere homage, postcolonial commentary, and deadpan satire. El Gran Baile (2000) and Señor Coconut and His Orchestra Present Yellow Fever! (2006, rearranging Yellow Magic Orchestra) are the primary documents of this project. Schmidt also operates as Atom Heart, Lisa Carbon, and dozens of other aliases.
