Moritz von Oswald

Moritz von Oswald, born in 1962 in Hamburg, trained as an orchestral percussionist before playing in the new wave band Palais Schaumburg in the 1980s. Moving to Berlin, he became an in-house producer for the label Tresor, and in 1993 co-founded Basic Channel with Mark Ernestus, whose minimal, delay-soaked productions, along with the related Rhythm & Sound and Maurizio projects, effectively founded dub techno. Basic Channel and its Chain Reaction offshoot became defining reference points for Berlin electronic music. From 2009 he led the Moritz von Oswald Trio, pairing rhythmic science with Vladislav Delay and later Tony Allen, and has also worked with Juan Atkins and Carl Craig.
