Minoru Sato

Minoru Sato (recording as m/s or SASW) is a Japanese sound artist born in 1963 in Tokyo. His work engages with physical phenomena — resonance, standing waves, electrical signals, magnetic fields, thermal processes — treated as both the subject and material of installation and recording. Rather than representing these phenomena, his practice seeks to activate them as audible events, requiring attentiveness to the conditions under which sounds arise.

He founded the WrK collective and label in 1992 alongside Masahiko Okura, Kozo Inada, Toshiya Tsunoda and others, producing a distinctive body of work based on austere attentiveness to sonic fact.
