Miki Yui

Miki Yui is a Japanese artist, composer and musician born in 1971 in Tokyo and based in Düsseldorf since 1994. She studied art and audio-visual media in Tokyo, Cologne and Düsseldorf, and works across music, performance, drawing and installation, investigating the grey zone between perception and imagination — what she describes as the threshold between sound and silence, the real and the imagined.

Since 1999 she has built sonic landscapes out of very quiet noises, samples, electronic sounds and field recordings — what she calls an attention to the "small sounds" at the edge of hearing.
