Mike Patton

Mike Patton (b. 1968) is an American vocalist and composer whose practice spans a vast range of genres. Best known as the vocalist of Faith No More — whose 1992 album Angel Dust remains one of the most formally adventurous records in mainstream rock — he has sustained a parallel career via projects including Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantômas, Peeping Tom, and Mondo Cane. As a solo artist he has worked with figures from Zorn to Björk. His approach to the voice as an instrument — extending its range through noise, extended technique, and genre-shifting — is most explicit on the solo album Adult Themes for Voice (1996), composed entirely of vocal sounds, and on his work via his label Ipecac.
