Mika Taanila

Born in Helsinki in 1965, he is a Finnish filmmaker and visual artist whose work moves between documentary, expanded cinema, and gallery installation. His 1998 film Futuro: A New Stance for Tomorrow chronicled the rise and fall of a prefabricated house design that became an emblem of postwar technological optimism in Finland. The Future Is Not What It Used To Be (2002) and Optical Sound (2005) further developed his interests in technology, time, and collective memory. He received the Ars Fennica Award in 2015 and has shown work at Documenta (2012), the Venice Biennale (2017), and Berlin Biennale (2004).
