Miguel Angel Coria
Born in Madrid in 1937, he was a Spanish composer who played a foundational role in establishing electroacoustic music in Spain. In 1964 he co-founded ALEA, the country's first electronic music laboratory, together with Luis de Pablo and Carmelo Alonso Bernaola. Grants from the Gaudeamus Foundation and the Juan March Foundation allowed him to study with Iannis Xenakis and with Gottfried Michael Koenig at the Institute of Sonology in Utrecht, where he composed Collage (1967) and Joyce's Portrait (1968). His early work showed affinities with Webern before moving toward French Impressionist influences. He died in Madrid in February 2016.
