Mieskuoro Huutajat
Founded in Oulu, Finland in 1987 by conductor Petri Sirviö, this ensemble performs texts by shouting rather than singing, delivering national anthems, political speeches, everyday documents, and abstract material with strict choral discipline and deadpan staging. Originally comprising seventeen members, the choir has expanded to between twenty and forty formally dressed singers who enter venues with military precision. They performed at the Eurovision fiftieth anniversary concert in Copenhagen in 2005. Over the years more than 170 men have participated as members, and the group has performed internationally across both art and music festival contexts.
