Michelle Atherton
Michelle Atherton is a British artist and researcher based in Sheffield. Working across video, sound, installation, and intervention, her practice explores interspecies relations, ecological listening, and material decomposition through what she terms a remix aesthetic combining image, found sound, and technology. Key works include The Repository of Irrational Gestures (2019), the ocean video trilogy ARP: Absorbing Red Photons, and Soil Seance Sessions (2023–), which uses experimental devices to amplify the micro-sounds of soil. She is Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University and has held residencies at the Banff Centre and Bethnal Green Nature Reserve.
