Michael von Biel
Michael von Biel (born 1937) is a German composer associated with the Cologne experimental music scene of the 1960s, working in graphic notation, indeterminate composition, and text scores. Closely connected to the Fluxus milieu and the circle around Cardew, Wolff, and Cage, he produced a small but significant body of composed work in the early to mid-1960s before largely withdrawing from compositional activity. His Streichquartett (1963) and other works from this period have been reissued and performed with renewed interest, placing him in the canon of post-Cagean European experimental composition.
