Michael Gendreau

San Francisco-based sound artist and acoustician who studied composition at Mills College and has worked since 1979 across solo projects and group configurations. From 1983 he collaborated with Suzanne Dycus as Crawling with Tarts, producing a substantial cassette catalogue through the 1980s and 1990s. His professional work in machinery vibration isolation and environmental noise informs a practice focused on infrasound, microvibration, and psychoacoustics. He uses accelerometers to translate the sonic activity of buildings into site-specific compositions of extreme quietude and precision.
