Michael Espósito
American sound artist and researcher born in Gary, Indiana in 1964 whose practice centres on Electronic Voice Phenomena — anomalous recordings in which voices appear in otherwise silent audio — and its relationship to experimental music and field recording. He studied communication theory at Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame, and co-founded Phantom Airwaves, an institution dedicated to EVP research and education. Using field recordings captured at research sites across Indiana and elsewhere, he constructs dark ambient compositions that sit at the threshold between empirical documentation and acoustic art. His work is published by Touch, the London-based sound art label.
