Melt Banana

Melt Banana are a Japanese noise-pop duo from Tokyo, formed in 1992, comprising vocalist Yasuko Onuki and guitarist Agata. Their practice is built on extreme compression: songs often last under a minute, delivering dense, hyperkinetic guitar noise, electronic treatments, and Onuki's deliberately inhuman vocal delivery at maximum intensity. Their releases — primarily on A-Zap Records and later Skin Graft and Tzadik — established them as singular figures in international noise rock and grindcore adjacent music. They have toured extensively worldwide and collaborated with numerous artists, maintaining a rigorous practice defined by the productive constraints of their chosen format.
