Matt Heckert

Matt Heckert is an American artist, musician, and machinist, a former core member of Survival Research Laboratories (SRL). He later developed his own Mechanical Sound Orchestra — large-scale mechanical and automated instruments that produce rhythm and drone through physical percussion, spinning metal, and pneumatic systems. His performances present the machines as an autonomous performing ensemble, generating music through mechanism rather than human gesture. He has exhibited and performed internationally, combining fine craftsmanship with noise music aesthetics and industrial spectacle.
