Martin Schwarzenlander

Austrian composer born in 1955 in Seewalchen who studied double bass and composition in Salzburg and Essen before developing a body of electroacoustic and text-sound work. Active between 1980 and 1988, he produced pieces realized at studios in Ghent and Bourges that used readings from literature and newspapers, delivered by alternating voices and processed into layered sonic tapestries. A split LP with composer Max Keller documented his Sozialistische Musiker Initiative collaboration. His final composition, Pas Rien, was recorded at INA-GRM studios in Paris in 1988, after which he ceased composing, closing a decade of politically engaged sound practice.
