Martín Escalante
Martín Escalante is a self-taught Mexican saxophonist and improviser from Guanajuato, based in Los Angeles. Working exclusively on alto saxophone — slightly modified to extend its range of multiphonics and voice extensions — he plays harsh noise acoustically with no effects, no electronic processing, and no edits. He founded Sploosh Records (2012) and Wash and Wear Records to release his own work and artists from Mexico, the USA, Chile, Norway, and Peru. He is also a photographer and filmmaker, and supervised the soundtrack for his brother Amat Escalante's film La Región Salvaje. Collaborators include Otomo Yoshihide, Toshimaru Nakamura, and Teté Leguía.
