Mark Vernon

Mark Vernon is a Scottish sound artist and musician based in Glasgow, known for his use of found audio tapes and reel-to-reel recordings. Working with discarded cassettes purchased from charity shops and collected from relatives, he builds layered compositions from the unintended domestic recordings — voices, music, ambient sound — of anonymous people. His releases on Chocolate Monk and other British independent labels treat found tape as both musical material and archive of private life. His practice occupies a space between concrete music, documentary sound, and audio art, with a strong sense of warmth and human curiosity about the people whose voices he encounters.
