Mark Lanegan
Mark Lanegan (1964-2022) was an American singer from Ellensburg, Washington, whose smoke-cured baritone made him one of grunge's most distinctive voices. He fronted Screaming Trees from 1985 to 2000, then built a prolific solo catalogue beginning with The Winding Sheet (1990), moving through blues, folk and industrial textures on albums like Bubblegum (2004). A longtime collaborator of Queens of the Stone Age, he contributed vocals to several albums and tours, and recorded three duet records with Isobel Campbell. He also formed the Gutter Twins with Greg Dulli. His 2020 memoir Sing Backwards and Weep detailed his addiction and recovery. He died in Ireland from COVID-19 complications.
