Mark Fisher

Mark Fisher (1968–2017) was a British cultural theorist, writer, and critic whose work reframed how capitalism, mental health, and popular culture are understood. His book Capitalist Realism (2009) argued that it had become easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism — a diagnosis that became one of the defining formulations of the early twenty-first century. Writing as k-punk from 2003, Fisher moved between hauntology, electronic music, horror film, and political theory with rare fluency. He lectured at Goldsmiths and co-founded the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit in the 90s. His book Ghosts of My Life (2014) extended this into a theory of hauntology and lost futures.
