Mark Bain
Born in 1966 in Seattle, Mark Bain studied at the Cornish College of Art, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and completed a Master of Science in Visual Studies at MIT in 1998, before undertaking a two-year residency at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, where he has since remained. His site-specific installations use seismic sensors, transducers, and purpose-built machinery to amplify the latent vibrations of buildings and architectural structures, turning them into sonic instruments from within. He grew up in an architectural family and positions his work as that of an anti-architect.
