Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri

Born in Ptolemais, Greece in 1974, Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri trained in rhythmic gymnastics before turning to music after an injury. She studied at Goldsmiths College London, collaborated with the improvisation ensemble AMM and Eddie Prévost from 1999 to 2009, and completed her doctorate at the University of California, San Diego in 2008. Her compositions explore resonant surfaces, motorised objects, and the borders between sound art, visual art, and performance. She is an Associate Professor of Music Composition at Cornell University and has received the Dan David Prize for Contemporary Music.
