Marcela Armas
Born in Durango, Mexico in 1976, Marcela Armas studied at the University of Guanajuato and later in Valencia, and is now based in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. Her practice centres on large-scale installations examining energy use as a political and ethical condition. Her work I Machinarius deployed 31 industrial cranes to trace the outline of Mexico using a chain lubricated with petroleum. Her installation Resistance delineated the US-Mexico border with incandescent metal filament. She received the ARCO/BEEP Award at ARCO Madrid in 2012 and the VIDA 16.0 prize from the Telefónica Foundation.
