Manuel Rocha Iturbide

Born in Mexico City in 1963, Manuel Rocha Iturbide studied at the Escuela Nacional de Música and at Mills College before spending the 1990s at IRCAM in Paris, where he pursued doctoral research on granular synthesis and its connections to quantum mechanics under Jean-Claude Risset. Returning to Mexico, he became one of the leading figures in Mexican electroacoustic music and sound art, teaching and writing extensively on its history. His commissions include a 2006 work for the Arditti Quartet and a 2010 piece for pianist Aki Takahashi. He remains based in Mexico City.
