Manrico Montero
Manrico Montero (1973–2018) was a Mexican sound artist, bioacoustics researcher, and music producer based in Mexico City. He specialised in field recording of Latin American ecosystems — capturing flamingos in the mangroves of Sisal, Yucatán, and the wingbeats of Monarch butterflies using custom-built microphones. He co-founded the Mandorla netlabel (2005) and the ensembles Estructuras de la Tarde and La Orquesta Silenciosa, and released music under the aliases DJ Linga, Karras, and Karras In Dub. He presented his bioacoustics project Semiosis at Mexico's National Phonoteca in 2015. He died on May 21, 2018, from complications during a respiratory procedure in Mexico City.
